To 10X Your Business, Stop Having “Book a Discovery Call” As Your CTA

A tip that (in combo with a few other things) 10X’ed my business:

I stopped having “book a discovery call” as the CTA in all my emails, posts, and FB Lives.

And instead I started saying WHAT MY OFFER was and inviting people to simply DM ME.

“Saying what your offer is” means, at a minimum: How long is it? What type of program is it (1:1, group, etc.)? Who’s it good for? What outcome(s) are you shooting for? What concepts or shifts or steps are you deploying in the program to help people get the outcome? (Said another way: what TYPE of help are you providing?) What’s the approximate (or exact) investment?

I can’t stress enough what a difference this made.

When I was just constantly saying robotically “book a call, book a call, book a call” I got VERY FEW CALLS.

And the calls I did get, sometimes said they wished they had known the details of the program beforehand so they could have better assessed whether it was for them and not wasted my time.

(Many were surprised to learn it was a group program when they were looking for 1:1, or vice versa. Or realized that it was longer or shorter than they were hoping for. Or that it didn’t include the type of help they thought they needed.)

I’m specifically addressing an organic social media context here.

The same might not be true of a paid funnel in a super large business that has more of a reputation and word has already gotten out about what their program/offer is.

But if you’re a solopreneur or have a small team, and you’re using organic social media, then be SOCIAL.

I now see that it’s a lot more approachable to be invited to “DM me to chat about the program” than to see a post with a link to a discovery call booking form that asks all sorts of questions and still doesn’t tell you anything about what their offer is.

It’s a lot easier for someone to slide into your DMs and ask the things they’re curious about, rather than debate themselves about whether or not they should sign up for a call when they’re not sure if it’s for them and don’t want to waste your time.

Even over email, “reply to this email and we’ll have a dialogue” works.

When I started doing things this way, I started getting 5-10 DMs per week (which included the occasional email) asking about my offers. This is from about the same size audience I had when I was constantly inviting people to book calls, and back then I only got a handful of calls per MONTH.

And not only that, but the DMs actually already knew what program they were DMing me about and basically what it involved, so the conversations were a lot simpler and shorter than the calls had been.

In fact, the first time I invited people to DM me, I had originally been thinking that if they sounded like a fit I would then invite them to a call.

But then some of those people said things like, “This sounds so perfect for me, I’m sure I want to do it – what is next? Do I have to get on a call with you or can I just sign up now?”

And I realized that my content and my descriptions of my offers had done such a good job qualifying and pre-selling people that I didn’t even NEED to do calls.

So I happily told those folks that NO, they didn’t need to get on a call with me and I could just sign them up right away.

Fast forward about a year and a half, and I’ve shifted to ONLY Messenger enrollments and am loving how simple my business and life have become.

So, there are two main takeaways here:

1) Actually talk about your OFFER, not just the problem you solve.

2) Be social on social media. Invite people to start casual CHATS with you, not to book calls (at least not as a first step – you can invite them after they DM you if you like).
