A lot of people worry about how to “set themselves apart” from others in their niche or how to settle on “what makes them different.”
Often they’re over-complicating it.
Sometimes what makes you different can be as simple as the accuracy and detail orientation of your work.
Yep… sometimes actually being better and more precise at what you do than everyone else (a.k.a. having a phenomenal skill set) is the simplest way to set yourself apart.
Which sounds quite boring, doesn’t it?
I know a lot of folks would rather believe that it’s about some flashy marketing tactic… especially if you see a lot of people signing up for things that are marketed flashily.
But here’s the thing.
You’re highly intelligent and so are your ideal clients.
They’re not easily impressed by flashy marketing.
They’re looking for depth, precision, and understanding.
And it’s actually not that difficult to show them that you have those things.
You can simply write about your ideal client’s challenges (or goals) in a way that shows your depth, precision, and understanding.
And this is actually the best marketing there is – even though it’s not how most people conceive of marketing.
I’ve spent ~5 years writing this kind of content, trying to showcase the precision of my thinking and the accuracy of my methods.
I’ve heard from many of my clients that it worked – they came to believe that I understood their challenge in a precise, hit-the-nail-on-the-head kind of way that very few others did, and that if they hired me, I would likely help them come to accurate and aligned answers about their offer, ideal client, outcome, and/or content.
I’ve never done anything flashy – never a catchy title or tagline, never a beautifully branded website.
What I HAVE done is to write in detail about the oversights that others (not by name) in my niche make with their clients when their process isn’t as precise as what I’ve developed.
I’ve given examples of my process in action, with plenty of detail.
That’s me using my content to SHOW people – as opposed to telling – that my work will be more accurate and precise than that of others they may have hired or encountered in the past.
You can do the same thing.
I recently engaged someone’s services to help me with a health issue – and he stood head-and-shoulders above everyone else I was considering.
This wasn’t because he had some “unique value proposition” one-liner on his website that caught my attention.
It was because he had detailed and comprehensive information on his website about his methods and how/why they’re more precise and accurate than others – and I could tell by his explanations that he really knew what he was doing.
This doesn’t need to be over-complicated.
If you’re someone who truly has honed an amazing skill set and method, and would like me to help you to straightforwardly write about it using my two proven frameworks (the direct pitch for your offer and the lead-generating/value-giving post) so that you can attract more of the sophisticated buyers who’ll see high value in your work and be great to work with…
