Can Creating & Posting Content Be a Reliable Form of Lead Generation?

I recently saw a FB post that read as follows:

“Fact: Creating and posting content is not lead generation.”

If you know me, you know I really scratched my head at that one – since creating and posting content is pretty much the only form of lead generation that I do. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m not actually sure what this post truly meant.

(That’s one of the problems with posting one-sentence declarations without defining our terms – it automatically looks inflammatory and invites comment-wars between people who are coming from different perspectives and therefore interpreting our terms through varying lenses. I think it might even repel people who would actually be a good fit for our work if they truly understood what we were saying – but that’s a topic for another post.)

But let’s say that this post meant it’s impossible to get leads solely from creating and posting content – that you need some other kind of activity in the mix like cold outreach or meet-n-greet chats.

That would be false.

I and many others have gotten so many awesome clients and earned so much money (my revenue total is at $920K and counting) from only posting content and getting inbound inquiries from it.

We don’t do any kind of outreach to initiate conversations with potential clients.

On the other hand, let’s say that post meant you need more to the equation, like an audience to see said content or to write the content in a particular way.

That is actually true. ๐Ÿ™‚

But the good news is that it’s not hard to add those pieces in so that your content creates leads for you.

I always find it fascinating when people with other lead-gen strategies pooh-pooh the idea of organic content creation as a way to get leads and clients.

“That’s not a real method!” they say. “Not something a real business owner would do! You’re just posting random stuff and then hoping someone sees it! You need something more consistent and predictableโ€ฆ MY METHOD.”

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I find it amusing that the solution is automatically assumed to be that we need to just dump organic content altogether as a method, rather than cleaning up the randomness of how we’re writing and sharing our organic content, so that it’s not so random anymore. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For years I actually just accepted the idea that using paid advertising to funnels was the only way to make my income and client flow consistent and predictable. I didn’t question it too much.

Now, that idea seems laughable.

For nearly 4 years now I’ve consistently gotten high-ticket clients coming in – via organic content creation.

I haven’t run a single paid ad or done any other kind of client-getting method since 2018.

It’s predictable. I can count on it. I can plan my financial needs and lifestyle around it.

(That was never the case when I tried to use paid advertising, btw!!)

The predictability of the method comes from MEโ€ฆ and my consistency in implementing it.

–I consistently request new people to join me on my FB profile (until I get overwhelmed with clients, then I pause this part)

–I consistently make posts on my profile letting people know about my FB group and the great trainings I have in there

–I consistently post offer posts (both in my group and on my profile) in my 500-word framework that include all the same elements each time that potential clients want to know about how to work with me before they reach out

–I consistently post value content (both in my group and on my profile) in my 4-part framework that includes everything a potential client wants to know about how they can solve their problems, plus a call-to-action mentioning what is for sale and the next steps to invest in it

–I consistently create (and re-post) great trainings in my FB group to go into more depth on my topics

–I consistently respond to potential client inquiries in a timely and friendly manner, and onboard people to work with me as soon as they’re ready

–I consistently deliver stellar service, which results in clients consistently getting great outcomes and consistently telling others about me

.

None of this is random.

In fact, it’s highly systematic.

This is very good news if you’re someone who really enjoys writing about your topics and doesn’t care for the other methods out there (like starting a bunch of conversations in comment threads or DM, or running ads to a webinar and then having to have a bunch of sales calls with people who don’t really understand what you do).

Organic content creation is a perfectly valid method of lead generation whose results can be just as consistent and predictable as any other.

In fact, it might even be more so. I found that pretty much every measure of my business success went UP after I adopted this as my sole lead generation method.

Income = higher. Profitability = higher. Time spent working = lower. Client fit = stronger. Client satisfaction = higher.

And love for my life and work = sky-high. Which is the most important thing.

The main reason for all of these improvements, I think, is because the way I write content is more efficient at calling forward the right people.

It’s just faster to write something super-specific and then have the exact right people reach out, than to have a bunch of conversations with people who may or may not be right.

I wish I had known all of this sooner.

But it’s almost as satisfying to now be able to share this message with people who will be able to shortcut their own journeys and not take as long as I did to find success.
