Niching/narrowing your ideal client and offer need not be the gut-wrenching existential crisis that a lot of people make it into. 😉
Yes, you can probably help almost everyone. That’s true.
But you probably can’t help everyone equally well.
When I pose the “equally well” question to my clients, that’s when we’re typically able to eliminate, like, 80% of the options they’re considering for their offer and ideal client.
Like with FB ads/paid traffic experts. They can immediately eliminate anybody making less than $100K-$200K as an ideal client (if a coach/consultant) because those folks are actually not as likely to get great results from paid traffic.
That’s for a variety of reasons, including that they don’t have much wiggle room in their budget to do all the testing necessary for ads and might run out of cash flow during the process.
Also, at those revenue levels it’s uncertain whether or not someone has an awesome offer and clear messaging, which are prerequisites for getting ads to convert.
They COULD have great offers and messaging at those levels, but it’s less certain.
In other industries besides coaching/consulting, the revenue threshold for getting great results with ads can be even higher. (Like $1M per year)
Mindset experts, copywriting experts, systems experts, and many others should think similarly about their ideal clients. All of those types of expertise help more and get bigger/better results for businesses that are further along in terms of revenue.
That’s because they enhance strategies and processes that are already working. Mindset is always in service TO a specific goal, copywriters can’t pull the right words out of thin air, and systems aren’t going to make much of a difference for a business that only has a handful of clients and simple offers.
Even if you’re not in the B2B world, you still can’t help everyone equally well. Whatever your expertise is, it’s going to work better if applied to a person who already has certain things in place.
Like dating experts who mainly help their clients to do the inner work to attract love. That’s going to get better and faster results with clients who have already done the “outer work,” since both are needed to create a result.
Don’t over-complicate this. Your ideal client is the one you can BEST help.
My un-complicated approach to this niching issue is precisely why I’m able to help folks to clear this up quite quickly (usually after about an hour and maybe a few back-and-forth messages).
So far I haven’t had a client who didn’t feel like we nailed the wording of who they best help and with what outcome they best help them!
(You can see what some of these past clients of mine have to say if you click here.)
If you have a solid expertise but want more of the right/best-result-getting clients from social media, it’s very possible that you’d benefit from working with me. 🙂
I have a simple yet powerful process where I ask folks to provide examples (in a certain way) of their best-result-getting clients and then I help them discern, based on those examples, how to articulate their niche and outcome and who’s the best fit to get the outcome.
Clients have repeatedly used words like “powerful,” “pure artistry,” and even “magic” to describe my process for helping them to get clarity on this.
In my Niche/Outcome Workshops we work just on articulating the outcome and the basics of who’s best to get the outcome.
(I offer these workshops regularly, and you can always find out when the next dates will be if you visit this page)
In my 1:1 program we do all of that stuff too, but then we also write a full offer statement (which goes into all the stuff that your work involves, and more details on what makes someone a good fit) and we talk about how to qualify and select the right clients who contact you in response to the offer statement, and enroll them over DM if you wish.
In the 1:1 program I even help you with packaging (or re-packaging/tweaking) your offer if you need that.
And we work on coming up with ideas for lead-generating content, putting those posts together, giving you a personalized blueprint for writing them, and giving you feedback on as many posts as you want to write.
(Of course, these posts are extra potent when we begin them from the understanding of what you actually do and for whom you do it – and that stuff gets woven in so the posts are always pre-selling the right people.)
Send me a DM on Facebook if you’re interested in either of these opportunities to work with me.
If you’re a business/marketing/copy expert who’s already quite familiar with my process for helping people to articulate their niche and outcome, and want to learn how to teach it to your own clients and get my permission to do so, you might be interested in my Strong Methodâ„¢ Certification Program. Also DM me on FB if you’re interested in this!
