Something I’ve noticed a TON over the years is people thinking their work is too broad and therefore too difficult to explain.
(And therefore they feel stuck getting their work out there in a bigger way to have the life-changing impact for a lot more people)
But here’s an amazing thing I’ve realized:
Often the work itself isn’t actually that broad. The person DOES have their niche, their “thing,” their angle.
It’s just that the way they’re explaining it makes it SOUND broad.
For example, I often converse with people who say that they help their clients with “clarity,” which indeed does sound broad at first blush.
However, after I get more information from them, and ask for examples of different people they’ve helped to get clarity on something, I often realize:
It’s a certain TYPE of clarity that they help people with.
In one person’s case, for example, it was clarity on why people do self-sabotaging behaviors to wreck something good in their lives or prevent something good from happening (like ending a relationship that was going well, not getting out there to sell an offer that they know would make them money, etc.)
This sense of the word “clarity” is different from other senses in which someone might mean it!
Like, it could mean clarity on what someone is meant to do with their career (purpose, gifts, that sort of things).
Or clarity on how to express/word things (like what I help people with).
Or any one of a million other meanings.
But in this example, that person didn’t help with those kinds of clarity.
So, although they thought they helped with “clarity” in a general sense, they actually help with something more specific than they thought. They DO have their niche.
Another example of someone thinking they don’t know their niche/”thing”/angle is people who tell me they help their clients “move past blocks” and that they don’t know how to narrow that down.
After some questioning and hearing examples of what they do, I almost always see a pattern, and realize that they help their clients move past a certain KIND of block.
In one case, it was blocks to attracting love with someone who was NOT a narcissist (her clients kept attracting that kind of person over and over, and were “blocked” as far as being able to attract someone who would be an equal partner in the relationship).
That’s WAY more specific than I initially thought it was after simply hearing “I help people move past blocks!”
In another case, it was blocks to getting one’s signature creative work published (such as a play, a book, a musical album, etc.).
Quite different from the first example, right?
And also quite different from the murky-sounding “I help people move past blocks” in a general sense.
These people, too, do indeed have their niche/”thing”/angle already.
They just don’t realize it because they haven’t pinned down the wording or noticed all of the patterns among their best clients over their many years of experience.
And speaking of experience… if you, too, have many years of experience doing the work you do – yet you’re feeling challenged as to how to explain or even identify a specific angle to what you’re doing – it’s very likely that I can help.
That’s where I thrive. I naturally and intuitively ask a series of gentle questions to probe into your experiences and find the niche or angle that’s already there, but that you may not have been able to see yourself because you’re too close to it.
I’m never sure how many questions I’ll ask or what they’ll be, but I do know that the moment I go “Ohhhhhhhh” is the magical moment when I understand what you do and I know that we can help others to understand it too.
I do this process with everyone who joins my “Articulate Your Niche and Outcome” Group Workshops (you can always click here to see when I’ll next be offering these workshops).
I also do this same process with my 1:1 intensive clients in my 30-day program.
In the group workshops, we just do the niche/angle statement and stop there.
In the 1:1 30-day program, we move into discussing how your work could actually be a somewhat (though usually not fully) standardized program/offer and how you could describe the work itself AND pitch the offer in my proven 500-word framework to be used in a social media post (and in other ways, too, if you like).
And we also discuss how you can write long-form-style content that puts different aspects of the work on display and gives various examples of how it applies in your perfect niche, so that the right people recognize themselves in it and send you a DM about your program.
And (if needed) we talk about how you can grow your friends list with people who may potentially need your work.
You don’t even usually need to worry much about the exact structure for your sales conversations when you use this method of attracting clients (because those who DM you are already so convinced that your work is right for them) but, if needed, we also go over my super-simple process for handling the DM inquiries that you get, making sure they’re the right people, and enrolling them.
(Once again, all of this work is done in my 30-day private intensive program.)
I’ve now taken over 150 people through the program using the process I just described, and have gotten incredible feedback that it transformed the way they think about their work, the way they explain it to people, and even how they DO the work.
And transformed their business, too, of course 🙂 (When you follow the precise method I’ve laid out, including the audience growth piece, it’s common to get several or more than several high-ticket sales per month – my own record was 9 in a month!)
If this post spoke to you and you’re interested in the 30-day program OR one of the workshops, just send me a DM on Facebook about it and we’ll chat to make sure it’s a good match for you.
(Though, if you’ve read this far into the post and are still nodding your head, it probably is 😉 )
I do believe that working with me is the fastest way to clarity on these things. I have my thought process down pat for helping someone articulate their niche and I know it like the back of my hand. We can get you there quickly – in 15 minutes on the workshop, plus your pre-work and 60-ish minutes of my time to review that pre-work.
Buuuut, if you want more details on my thought process or on any aspect of what I mentioned in this post before (or instead of) working with me, that’s cool too.
I have a ton of other posts that give more details on all of these topics, and I also have a well-organized file that lists all of them 😉 so I can quickly find and link you up to the right one(s) to match whatever your question is.
This website also has a lot of the content duplicated in blog posts – and you’ve probably noticed that each one is tagged according to topic.
More information about the 30-day program is available on this site too.
Soooo… just comment here or DM me on Facebook and let me know what you still have a question about, or what you’d like more information on! 🙂
